Wings over Gatineau-Ottawa Airshow – 2012

Hello folks! Went to Gatineau’s “Vintage Wing Over Gatineau-Ottawa” on the French side of Ottawa. Went there on September 16, 2012 to view planes both on display and showing off in the skies, just the way I like it. $20 to get in and to observe lovely planes fly around.

I’ve been wanting to back to viewing an air show for a long while now, even more so when I viewed one at Ottawa airport back when I was a kid. I miss those actually and glad Gatineau airport hosts it frequently, from what I noticed anyways. A fellow photographer I know directed me towards this event last year, however I couldn’t go to that one. I kept pushing myself to try to view this one once I discovered another one happening a few weeks later – this one.

Was also worried my images might turn out crap, especially with the lens being meant for close-ups and not far away moving objects. Thankfully with the way the air show was set up put my worries to rest, instead making me feel at home with all the planes. If anything, I want to go back to it to see and hear the planes start up, take-off, and just get a private moment without the spectators. I’m going to go ahead and say that might not happen anytime soon but you never know so I’ll keep my mind open to such.

HA! Seriously?! I get a wrist strap eh? I can still remember my rant about such at Naru2u Anime convention and myself being back in Cuba. Seeing as how this is an airshow I’ll just let this slide.

What I liked about this airshow was that you could go inside planes that were large enough to fit more than one person within. The horrible part were the line-up….Buzz kill. Patience is a virtue and I might get another chance later?

(Link – MySite) – Snowbirds going through checklists I’d assume.

(Link – MySite) – I fell in love with that paint-scheme and plane. Even had snowflake wheels.

Hearing the snowbird pilots over the speakers as they pulled off their maneuvers made this all the more awesome. You could hear and see it at the same time. Lets just say my mind has been programmed to accept pilot chatter within the Gundam universe (anime mechas) to the point where this becomes “cinematic”.

Some random idiot decided to complain about STO being free (or I think it was free) and that they shouldn’t heard people like cats….I think cattle makes more sense, not cats. People are NEVER happy when it comes to transportation. Sucks to be them…..

(Link – MySite) – What I got in the end; Hat, signed CF-18 shirt, and two autographs + my own images & videos along with feeling more than satisfied with the event.

This was kick-ass! As someone who enjoys being around and seeing planes this just made my day. I was highly worried when I was going to the air show only to come out with more than what I asked for in images, videos, and souvenirs. Also seeing the CF-18 & Sabre in anniversary colors; I’m happy. The CF-18 flying overhead has to be the highlight of the show for me.

Hope you enjoyed the images as much as I did being and watching them!
