Tulip Festival Intro & Ottawa Tour

As things didn’t go as planned I had to split this single topic into two. The first part is of the Tulips for the Tulip Festival (an intro) and a quick incomplete tour of downtown Ottawa.

I apologize if anybody finds these Ottawa articles boring, I’m simply trying to archive the Ottawa that I know and love. I also have two more reasons for doing this – 1) To bring up home sickness or nostalgia for those who used to live in Ottawa and are currently living abroad and 2) To show foreigners a more local view of Ottawa that tourist sites tends to mushy up in vagueness.

I took a quick look at the Rideau Canal locks to see whats new as I was heading to Major’s Hill Park. The locks were overflowing a tad giving me a nice video to work with later for two video ideas I have in mind.

Canadian Tulip Festival – Intro

Made it to the battered and bruised Tulips only to find an “under construction” Mirror tent. As I only been here once – Tulip Festival 2008 image gallery – I assumed the International Pavilion would be up by now. The Tulips were also abused by the cold, frost, and the chilly rain on the weird weekend.

I’m aware that people aren’t really interested in this (those under 25 of age) but it would be wise to respect any festival happening around you before they get discontinued by something in the future. Don’t find any local events interesting? Try hosting something that might be.

People were aiming top down; bottoms up for me. Tried to go for a joke there, failed? Think cameras. Still a fail? Ah well haha.

And then some 2010 versions of the images I took back in 2008.

(Sidenote: Link name should be 2008, I messed up with link name. I know because I was supposed to visit Tulip Festival in 2009 and outright forgot about it. There could be no way to miss two in a long period of time.)

I tried posing Rin infront of these Tulips but ended up gaining highly awkward stares and expressions. I know they don’t know about Anime but damn, never seen those kind of emotions/expressions/looks before. Elderly and tourists tend to point and chuckle or sometimes wish you good luck on your photo-shoots heh.

Oh, and I’m having her mimic the street performers in the Byward market ^^.

Yup, I got to wait it out a few more days.

Thats the last of any Tulips. Will come back when the Pavilion is up or if I decided to go to Dow’s Lake.

Ottawa Tour – Continued

I’m always showing you guys the American Embassy. I mean, look at it! Its huge and it wants to be showy in the middle of the downtown area. Many people who drive by this area or work in this area tend to complain about the concrete barriers taking up a lane. Now you can see both the embassy and the issue up close.

Maman Spider and the Basilika. I wanted to take interior pictures of Basilika but a sign said I couldn’t :(.

The Maman thread can be found here:

And a quick look at the American Embassy (left) and Major’s Hill Park (right). The Maman spider would be to my rear left and the Art Gallery would be behind me. The Parliament? To the right. I’m still puzzled as to how bunnies make it across without being run over.

I’ll come back with a proper pieced together image of that. I tried stitching the images together and it didn’t end up too well. I’ll try for leveled 360 view from here in a future article.

Like I said before, I wanted to take pictures of the interior but there was a sign saying I wasn’t allowed to.

Went by the Market but couldn’t video as people were packing up. I was also hungry and craving my once a week Sushi bento from T&T Supermarket. But, I do have an image of Rideau Center area. Thoughts  from the locals? This area is a bit dangerous. It would be suggested to come with someone else to provide safety in numbers. You don’t have to but it would be recommended.

And the Rideau Canal.

Was here for the Winterlude 2010 event:

And a nice view from under the bridge. I don’t have a zooming lens so this should do.

I hope you enjoyed the Tulips and the incomplete tour of Ottawa, see you in the next article ^^.

P.S:
If anybody knows where I can find a Arctic Fox plushie/stuffed animal in Ottawa can you tell me which store? I searched every souvenir shop that I could find and came out empty handed. Mostly bears, huskies, Mooses, Penguins, and the like.

I also asked where to get Tempura in a previous article and got lucky today with a take out order, all thanks to T&T Supermarket and the person who brought it home ^^.  It wasn’t even frozen! Win!

And got a nice gift with it heh. Solar panel powered Egg-Sushi wobbler.
