A’K’s Anime Viewing – 11/12/12 – R2

I think now is a better time than any to up another peak into what I’m watching. Time for round two of Arctic Kitsune’s Anime viewing. Let’s see what I’m watching and what I’m thinking about each and every show that is currently airing, or that I’m simply watching. Quite a nice Anime season this autumn.

(All images taken from Zerochan & Fraps.)

Actually loving this autumn season. It has so many nice Anime shows, which obviously includes Busou Shinki, which I will purposely place second because that is all I’ve been upping on my blog. Shall place Psycho-Pass first because I actually and genuinely did enjoy that show a lot.

Yup! Now is a better time than any to show you what I’m watching for 2 reasons 1) Some shows might end soon – 2) My top 7 favorites needs new Anime to add onto it.

Psycho-Pass:

In a not so distant future with society controlled by a system called Sybil people are constantly monitored by the Enforcer unit. Each and every person is constantly being observed for “Criminal Coefficency”. In other words the Enforcers act upon the Sybil system to make sure people aren’t over-stressed in becoming criminals, “dealing” with them in various means described by Sybil, the Big Brother of society. This show has this strong “Ghost In The Shell” vibe with the added “Martial Law” or “Big Borther” vibe to all. You’re constantly being observed, scanned, and told what to do for better or worse.

Criminals that are marked as such are used to hunt down as hunting dogs to hunt down criminals such as themselves. They have to obey or die by their handler. Things get quite nasty and harsh when these Enforcers – “Hunting Dogs” – are stripped of their normal authority, being looked down upon in a similar fashion as racism. The show portrays them as still being human yet being treated as nothing more than slaves and cannon fodder.

This show gets quite deep in how society should run, how it turned out that way in the first place for Pyscho-Pass’s future setting, and what is the “correct” way to live. You have Akane who is timid yet gifted enough to choose her routes while those around her are stuck with what Sybil shoved in their faces. Each human leads what seems like a linear life, not one with “choice”. With such, people immediately get frustrated with Akane due to her unsure behavior.  Jealousy and envy come to mind.

I picked this show up because it looked like it could compete with Jormungand’s seriousness, and with people’s needs of wanting a serious Anime. I’m not disappointed in it, not in the very least. I love it! I like the music and the way the story flows along with the concept. I even have to give my highest respects to the music composer for composing awesome tracks for this. Can I have the OST now? Patience I guess.

This show is also attracting a hell of a lot of fangirls from what I noticed. The fangirls are going absolutely crazy with the male Enforcers used as hunting dogs in this show.

(Up to episode 05.)
Reaction: Loving this show a lot, especially when paired with Jormungand. Loving the story, characters, animation, and music. Looking forward to watching this every week.

Busou Shinki TV:

In the near future the world is filled with 15 cm tall battle robots called “Busou Shinki”. Each person that owns a Shinki is called “Master”, while the robots themselves are called “Shinki” when outside of battle and “Busou Shinki” when outfitted for battle. Each and every Shinki has their own AI system and may be customized to their Master’s desire.

This show takes place in Tokyo once Rihito moves back from another place. Him and his four Shinkis move in and then live out their lives normally, with a bit of chaos sprinkled here and there for fun. They’re basically intelligent robots behaving like children or intelligent drunken teens (if that is even possible) constantly seeking to have fun while pleasing those they love. Ann (Arnval), Hina (Strarf), Lene (Altlene), and Aines (Altines) simply want to live out their robotic lives in a happy non-combat manner while Rihito’s dad nudges Rihito into combat using by giving him Strarf named Hina.

One awesome thing I really have to note is how useful Shinkis are outside of battle. They are treated and given the exact same authority as a human, they can purchase stuff on the web at any spot, and they can use GPS (Google Maps style) to determine where Shinkis or transport related goods are at.  Shinkis can even determine the nutrient content within your food. They are even used in every-day career related workplaces!

Quite a nice light-hearted series fitting for the Busou Shinki line. Sadly, it isn’t as serious as it should me. It doesn’t bother me much, other people are though. I’m loving the silliness, just not fully. Seeing Shinki’s organize a race was a nice view into their free-time habits. Quite nice seeing Shinkis finally animated, given cameos in each episode, and even fighting when given the chance. The music…a bit on the generic side but I do like it. I love the OP and ED along with the battle music. I do want the OST still, just have to expect the happy-go-lucky tracks.  Lastly, the animation itself is great, not the best though. You can see that they’re working on a tight budget or that there isn’t enough support or backing for the show. It’s simply a “slice-of-life” anime with battles placed here and there.

Just so we’re clear I’m loving the Anime. The only thing I’m out-right pissed off about are the people comparing this series with Infinite Stratos, most retarded comparison…even if 8-Bit studio is animating it I still find that comparison retarded. Angelic Layer or Chobits would make more sense because they’re actually robotic. You don’t have to be old to know about it, just do simple research.

*Wants to strangle/torture those comparing Busou Shinki with Infinite Stratos*.

(Up to episode 06.)
Reaction: This show takes priority over anything else on Thursday. When it doesn’t all hell breaks loose. I liking where this show is going and even predicted it to get serious roughly halfway through even before the show started. 8-Bit studio, don’t disappoint me!

Zetsuen No Tempest:

The story revolves around Mahiro Fuwa, a teenager whose family was mysteriously murdered one year before and his friend Yoshino Takigawa. Mahiro is contacted by Hakase Kusaribe, the leader of the Kusaribe clan who was left stranded on an unknown desert island by her followers, and agrees to help Hakase in exchange of her help to find out the culprit for the death of his family. Upon learning of his friend’s intentions, Yoshino joins him on his quest to stand against the Kusaribe clan who intends to awake the “Tree of Zetsuen” whose power can bring ruin to the entire world.

Several dialogues and plot elements in Zetsuen no Tempest pay homage to the works of William Shakespeare.

Taken from MAL because I’m still very unsure as how to word it properly. It’s one of those Anime that you like, but you just don’t know why or how to word it. It has you hooked and silenced you at the same time.

This show basically has two high-school guys trying to solve a murder of one of their loved ones while also facing magic in a “realistic” manner. Mahiro is the more active of the two wanting to solve the murder while Yoshino is more of the brains, assisting where ever possible. This brings out an interesting mixing, along with fangirls taking advantage of this turning them “gay”.

I like it how for every use of magic they need some sort of talisman or a vessel for magic. It’s done in a “realistic” and believable manner in the way of use.  Just place it on your person and just use it in the way it was intended to and viola! Just have to note that clans can use magic freely, and in a more powerful organized manner.

The whole Iron Syndrome thing is a bit on the mind-confusing part, yet still enjoyable. Not in that I get a pleasure of watching people suffer, but that it is done tastefully. Whenever a swarm of yellow butterflies appear people turn to stone. All in the name of reviving a tree!

This anime isn’t shy about screwing with your mind, nor with playing with time and paradoxes. It wants to be free in doing such. If you love Anime then you’ll be as hooked into this show as I am. Probably not fully, but in some manner you will be hooked and just as curious as I to find out the pieces of the puzzle. There is so many little references being spewed out that I simply can’t catch them all. They’re very subtle or just on the very “down-low” for me to not notice. This show often times reminds me of “Book of Bantorra”.

The music itself slipped past me so I can’t really comment about it. The opening – Spirit Inspiration – itself is quite nice and very catchy.

(Up to episode 06.)
Reaction: Highly interested and very curious. Not in a rush to watch, just the first thing to watch on Thursdays after Busou Shinki. Pleased with the way things are going in the show.

Kamisama Kiss:

Kamisama Kiss is about Nanami Momozono who becomes a land god after becoming homeless. Her father basically left town to evade his gambling debt forcing Nanami to be booted from her home. The previous shrine owner gifts Nanami a home, with the catch being she is now a land god with a troublesome yet obedient fox familiar.  As she tries to adapt to her new situation various real and supernatural happenings stir up her situation.

With this show aimed at females it does have many punchlines and situations aimed directly at them. However, this show is entertaining enough that I can enjoy it from both the manga and anime point of view without feeling pained by it. It contains numerous hilarious moments that become memorable as one continues to observe both Nanami and Tomoe, her fox familiar, various situations. It is constantly upbeat and quick to cheer the audience up with amusing punchlines.

To my surprise I also took a liking to both the opening and ending tracks for Kamisama Kiss. Seeing as how this is a Shoujo anime the OP and ED tracks hit the right notes for me to enjoy; Music to my ears!

(Up to episode 05.)
Reaction: Amusing. Surprised I can actually watch it in Anime form and even listen to both the OP & ED. I’m always looking forward to watching the next episode.

K Project:

Set in a world where history has taken a slightly different course from the one we’re familiar with, K follows the story of a young boy whose life is caught in a psychic war between seven kings.

Ashinaka High School is known for its unique setting: the entire campus is built on an island. Yashiro Isana, aka Shiro, is having lunch with a cat on one of the school rooftops. After his lunch break, Shiro goes on an errand for his classmate Kukuri to prepare for their upcoming school festival, only to be chased by some intimidating-looking men.

Snatched from MAL again. Also, this Anime is the hardest show to Google up with the generic name of “K”. Basically in a world where different colored Kings fight one another – Red vs Blue vs Colorless and etc. A supernatural gang war with us looking at a murder between Shiro and the red gang. We’re basically seeing a murder mystery mixed with gangs wars mixed in with slice-of-life moments. It feels like a clash of every genre mixed in with another placed on a schedule to please people instead of itself.

I do find this show interesting whenever things happen from a not so “slice-of-life” moment. I feel it doesn’t fit this show. It needs more gang wars and more murder solving with less school life craziness. To be truthful, I’m watching this show because of Neko – supernatural shape-shifting mischievous naked cat girl – and the OST. Other then that I’m simply using this show to keep me entertained.

(Seen up to Episode 06.)
Reaction: Interested, but not really. I’m in it for the Neko, the music, and just to see what will happen next in a not so curious way.

Sword Art Online:

From the Aincrad world we now go to an flying Elf world named Alfheim. From your medieval-esque world to your flying Elf world with a magic tree in the middle using the same game engine. The problem this time? Asuna, amongst a few others, are now stuck in this game being used as guinea pigs, or a a sex-toy in Asuna’s case.

Personally, I’m going to say this now and say that Sword Art Online isn’t the best, nor is it the worst. It is what K is to me, an Anime show that entertains. Nothing special about it and the hype and the broken quickened story are the only things driving it forward. First off, the first season should of been dedicated to Aincrad, the side stories for the OVA and then Alfheim for the second season. I’m also being given the impression that Alfheim was given more attention than Aincrad itself which is highly disappointing. What I mean by this is the pacing and the attention being given to Alfheim. You’re basically being given a “day-by-day” run-down instead of monthly skipping from Aincrad. This show does have its moments which makes me come back to it every weekend. As negatively as I worded this I’m actually enjoying this show, just having some minor gripes with it and the viewers.

Just so we’re clear – I won’t deny that this Anime is good, just not “The best” as people seem to put it. *Grabs some fire and burns the hype*. The whole in-family fan-service bit was a bit too much as well. Lovely, but too much. You basically have Kirito trying to date his sister in a room apart while being online while trying to save Asuna from a perverted person trying to marry her, and teasing her to do sexual favors. Don’t quote me or get me wrong because I’m actually enjoying the Alfheim world and the little moments it does have. I do like Leafa’s character and the hilarious moments within episode 19. I just didn’t feel like it needed to go to Alfheim until Aincrad was properly dealt with. Haste makes waste.

I’m not dropping this because it is a fun show, just insanely over-hyped by sheeps and rushed by the studio. I can’t seem to enjoy it fully because of people forcing others to enjoy it in a specific way “THE BEST ANIME IN THE WORLD!” or “THIS SUCKS!” Glad certain people decided to mute themselves though 🙂

(Seen up to episode 19.)
Reaction: Enjoying it and looking forward to each episode. Sadly, the story was rushed giving Alfheim over Aincrad more attention, or so it seems. Loving Leafa’s character and that mouth-biting scene. Not the best Anime! Look towards Psycho-Pass or Jormungand for that.

Jormungand: Perfect Order:

Continuing off from first season, Koko and her HCLI group enter deeper and more dangerous waters. Situations escalate, more people get involved, and a sea of bullets covers various locations. Koko’s foxy calculating resolve is tested as she sees her members involved in deadly situations.

Enjoying the first, it goes without saying or assumption that I would pick up Jormungand: Perfect Order! It has everything I and other viewers want in an Anime! I enjoy the serious battles HCLI get themselves into along with the comedy that makes you chuckle hard. The American CIA is now involved heavily in the show stirring up more chaos on the battlefield. Seeing Kasper finally taking action on screen  as well brings about viewer satisfaction similar to those in “Lord of War” and “Body of Lies” movies.

The author also seems to be interested in A380’s because they’re the most common aircraft used at every airport. Nothing but A380’s.

(Up to Episode 17 or 5 [Subbing confusion].)
Reaction: Absolutely loving this show! I’m at a loss for words but I am enjoying this more and more with every passing episode. All the crazy gunfights and comical happenings is just the right mix!

Muv-Luv Alternate – Total Eclipse:

Still watching Muv-Luv as it is one of the longer running shows. Still watching it and enjoying it with each passing episode. It still takes place in Alaska within the testing area as one nation tries to out-do another in the Blue-Flag competition. Yuuya has the past haunt him while obliviously gaining a lovely harem. Every girl wants to be with him as he acts oblivious to their true feelings.

I’m still expecting them to attack the invading BETA yet they’re still doing experiments and events. As nice as that is be nice to squeeze in a few more episodes with the BETA before this show finishes airing. Amusingly enough though, we had another one of those “mandatory beach scenes”, again with Yuuya being oblivious or dense-headed about his female harem situation. All in the name to relieve stress and to prevent rivalry…..though, more aimed at a perverted military personnel to loudly stare at a recording of the girls taking a dip in the onsen.

Needs more BETA action!

(Seen up to episode 19.)
Reaction: Highly interested and looking forward to each episode. Expecting more mecha combat in various forms.

Robotic:Notes:

2019, Divergence Ratio 1.048596. The near future, where a device popularly called the PokeCom, packaged with PhoneDroid OS, spreads, bringing the Augmented Reality world close to existence.

Chuuoutanegashima High School’s Robot Research Club is in danger of losing its club status. Kaito Yashio, one of only two members, is only obsessed with robot fighting games, showing no interest in the Robo Club even in this situation. The reckless, useless club head, Akiho Senomiya, aims to complete a giant robot, struggling hard to avoid losing the club’s status.

Taken from MAL.

I picked this up just recently and enjoying it so far. Just watching it “just because” and because it seems interesting. However, with episode two I’m more interested in learning more about the game, the mecha world, and the two character’s background.

Seeing Yashio play only Kill-Ballad, and only that was disappointing…however seeing him help out Senomiya in episode 2 made me respect him more. From episode 3 onward actually made him out to be a cool new character type – the lazy helpful guy. This show has potential and shall be watching it whenever I can.

I mean, how can you go wrong with Robotic Note showing off robots fighting off in a nice tournament similar to Medabots, Angelic Layer, and Busou Shinki. You have a game with the game’s coding used as controls (sounds familiar to GT5 and the RX8 gauges). Also, add some supernatural elements and some seriousness and you got yourself a nice enjoyable show. Even happy with the club trying to get JAXA to fund them. Try hard to do what you love best, or die trying! You’ll get to your destination one way or another. People will do everything to stop you! Either that, or people are just too stupid or inferior not to understand a genius’s mind.

I have to also say I love the ending theme, quite catch and nice to listen to.

Seeing Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate, this had me interested at the “slightly interested” mark. Sadly I don’t have much to say so I’ll just leave it at that and let myself enjoy it fully.

(Seen up to Episode 4.)
Reaction: Not all that interested at first, now curious and a bit more interested. Want to see how the club grows and builds.

Btooom!

Ryouta Sakamoto being recently ranked 10th on the world ranking of a virtual game called Btooom finds himself in a situation he never asked for. Ryouto and others find themselves put on an island to simply battle one another using the same concepts found in the game they were once a part of – from game to reality. Each must kill others to gain sonar shards to free themselves from the island, or die trying on the island.

A nice enjoyable concept turn brutal. Everybody and everything is fair game for death and explosions. Every character has some form of negative history behind them marking them for the game’s survival setting. If you want a reality TV based on survivor then here you have it! Well, maybe not but it’s close enough to such and far more entertaining.

I did say I wouldn’t follow it when viewing episode but it turned out highly interested that I continued watching it. Had to however get past the “rape” episode (luckily nothing really shown) though it enjoys treating girls as objects from the looks of things. I prefer my gals to look elegant while being intelligent, not as sex toys.

I don’t really have much else to say except that this is one oddly enjoyable yet brutal show.
(Seen up to episode 6.)
Reaction: Didn’t bite the hook at first but now waiting for more episodes. I want to get past the whole girls being treated as objects though. Nice concept done in a serious way.

Code;Breaker:

Code;Breaker is about people with the ability to use supernatural abilities to deal with “scum” or criminals of society. They are above the law (no law effects them) with the sole task of dealing with criminals and those that they deem unworthy in a negative view. Sakura gets caught up in this as she forces her way into these Code;Breaker’s world by force only to end up causing misunderstanding in her school and unnecessary chaos in public. Due to her constant persistents in wanting to stop Rei Oogami from killing other people. Sakura is then deemed “Special”, finding herself being exposed to various situations relating to crime and corruption.

Quite a nice show, but it isn’t keeping me interested all that much. I mean, it is interesting, just not enough to keep me hooked on it on a weekly basis. Not much else to say other than that it needs to be watched more for me to mention more.

Did like it how the villains also had the same abilities due to experiments, if cliched.

(Seen up to episode 4.)
Reaction: Interested, just in a weekly watchable basis. I do want to see what happens next from episode 4 however.

Space Brothers:

We moved on from Mutta’s various exams to Hibito finally going into space. This has been a nice long running anime with the little things in the show turning out to be the best things. All the little references making a big impact as a whole through. It does what it does very well and takes itself both seriously as it does comically. It knows how to have fun while staying serious.

I’m still enjoying this show but struggling to keep up with it because of other Anime. I’m loving how Mutta continues to struggle to catch up to Hibito being in the higher seat. As long as one continues to have the drive and desire they can do anything they want, along with rare surprises occurring along the way.

I have to point out that the show poked fun at people with Mohawks and how authority people look down on them. The kid in the show knew what he was talking about only to end up being told off by the NASA spokesperson.

Mutta! Hurry up and catch up! I also want the damn OST from this show! Release!

(Seen up to episode 30.)
Reaction: Highly interested yet struggling to keep up with it.

– Too little to say and too little care:

(On-Hold) – Little Busters.

Did like the first episode but I put it on hold until more episodes air. Did enjoy Angel Beats,  Clannad, Air, and Kanon so it’s only natural I check it out. Give me time to catch up! (Not saying this is bad, just on hold for now.)

(Just watching) – Hiiro no Kakera S2

Watching, but only to get it off my list at this point. Not dropping it because it’ll look bad on my list. I mean, it isn’t that bad…..just constant verbal bickering and internal conflicts. It is a shoujo show. Will say that the OP is nice.

(On-Hold) – Fairy Tail:

Placing this on hold to watch other Anime. Will get to it in time. I love it but other shows taking priority.

(On-Hold) – To LOVE-ru Darkness & OVAs:

Did find the first season enjoyable yet it is on hold for now. Am trying to sneak it inbetween newer anime shows yet can’t seem to. Let the craziness release soon!

—–

And that should be it! See any you like on my list that you want to elaborate on? Feel free to tell me what you like the most this season or what you’re watching. Can’t wait to watch more Psycho-Pass, Busou SHinki, Zetsuen no Tempest and etc.
