Busou Shinki – Sharatang – Type Violin

Music is a beautiful thing in this world. Yet, it can also be a dangerous piece of beauty when used as a weapon. Sharatang is such an example with her being musically elegant while wielding her violin. I’ve obtained her from HLJ for a total of $93 Canadian while checking to see who had what Shinki’s in stock after the WonFes ’11 update.

Violins appear to be the most used in Japan, or at least within the Anime sphere. I’ve noticed many Anime characters holding violins over trumpets, trombones, flutes, clarinets, or any smaller or more portable instruments. I have a Figma – Figma Aya Kagura – who holds a violin.  I’ve mainly seen violins in Letter bee, Gunslinger Girl, Ef – A tale of memories/melodies, and Clannad.

Also, Sharatang gives off this sly, plotting, and elegant aura whenever I look at her. Especially when I stare at her fan-art. I’ll snatch just one just to show you what I mean about the sly, plotting, and elegant bit.

Admiring the big box that looks big enough to match Benio’s large red box. Benio’s parts could probably rival that of Sharatangs! But ya, I ended up soaking in the elegance and the size of Sharatang’s massive box. Wow! Also, I purchased a mini wood-craft and LR44 batteries for Sharatang; one to store parts and another to power the lights.

(Link – MySite) – Pinkish background with three layers of parts? Oh boy….

(Link – MySite) – Three layers indeed. That’s all her parts!

Ok, I lied. NOW we have all the parts. We have two wires that hook up the the battery compartment to light the two LEDs. We also have extra parts, Battle Rondo codes (that expires on August 31st, 2011 grr!), and the double-sided booklet/manual/instruction sheet. She is on a veryfine line on the figure and a model kit line haha!

(Link – MySite) – The instruction sheet top.

(Link – MySite) – Hmm….quite wide.

(Link – MySite) – And I decided to activate Sharatang for this review 🙂

(Link – MySite) – Yaaaaaaaaa. Good thing I bought that wooden box haha!

(Link – MySite) – And yes, they all say Sharatang….except for the box.

(Link – MySite) – Avanti Physique – since 2036. *rubs eyes* ouch….

(Link – MySite) – Beautiful, but we’re missing flowers….grass….and….a stage.

(Link – MySite) – “Hmm?

(Link – MySite) – Hugging the world?  (Link – MySite) – Sharatang offering her hand.

Sharatang’s head differs from her fellow sisters and Figmas. You can remove the front hair peace, the faceplate with Shara’s hair on the sides, and even plug (or remove) sharas hair and armor head-gear. It’s quite a neat concept. It’s done so nicely and keeps Shara’s elegance.

(Link – MySite) – Sharatang’s head differs from her fellow Shinki sisters and Figma counterpart.

(Link – MySite) – Sharatang – our napping little violin beauty.

(Link – MySite) – Sharatang offering her other arm to show off her violin inspired armor.

(Link – MySite) (Link – MySite) – Sharatang’s violin arm;You can also attach a hand on the end.

(Link – MySite) – Concentration is key.

(Link – MySite) – 3 LR44’s required, yet sold separately.

(Link – MySite) – Gradually piecing together Shara’s armor piece.

(Link – MySite) – Her violin and her lights.

(Link – MySite) – Remember those two cables? They go from the battery box to the lights here.

To turn on the lights you use a transparent key shaped nicely in either the violin style, or a general music instrument inspired shape. You use this key to turn on a solid red light, and turning it to one side (gently) to set random flickering patterns to go add to Sharatang’s musical elegant and beauty. Just imagine Sharatang performing on stage at a nice fancy concert for the rich playing the nicest violin piece that you know of.

I got some ideas so I may add them into Sharatang’s photoshoot later!

(Link – MySite) – And let there be light! *evil laughter*

What’s written on her music/battery box sounds a bit ecchi/perverted. It’s a nice touch, but I see a double meaning in it……I’ve watched too much Anime…..*sighs*

(Link – MySite) – “Pluck though my flower, my dear.

And, let us give Sharatang a moment to play a mini concert? 🙂

(Link – MySite) – Sun reflected off another building and shone onto mine giving Sharatang some light.

(Link – MySite) – And now showing Sharatang’s light! I’m surprised you could see the light.

(Link – MySite) – I like how you can move the lights around.

(Link – MySite) – I said, let there be light!

(Link – MySite) – I forgot to say thatSharatang’s left leg also doubles as a violin.

(Link – MySite)

And a video showing off Sharatang’s lights and the key shaped inspired by her violin self. I may be a keytone peg. And yes, I know you can see similar (probably better) videos showing her and lights but I wanted to share anyways.

Violin Sound:

I don’t like the way Sharatang sounds in Battlemasters and Battle Rondo so I’ll share one video to make up for that issue.  Guess I did enjoy the Rondo violin sound, just not enough.

– Deaf girl learns to play Violin:

(Do as you wish and don’t let people stop you. They’re simply jealous they can’t do what you’re doing!  If they hate you that means they like you. They’re wasting their precious time to hate you. ;))

Battle Rondo:

You know what? Why not, let us add Battle Rondo because Sharatang came in a big box and even looks very beautiful! Can’t forget about Battle Rondo now! I know it’s closing, but I must take advantage of it before it goes poof on August 31st! Now to show you the other half of Sharatang! Her more formally elegant side in a rich manner. Know of a better wording?

The many faces of Sharatang!

(Link – MySite) – Activation time!

(Link – MySite) – If only we could activate real Shinki’s.

(Link – MySite) – When you try poking her on a negative affection.

(Link – MySite) – Much better! Now she looks like a violin goddess!

(Link – MySite) – I tried poking her again with her armor on.

(Link – MySite) – Sharatang getting all high and mighty? Copying Renge?

(Link – MySite) – I have myself to blame for not understanding Japanese :(.

Final Thoughts:

She is quite an awesome figure, putting my other Shinki’s down lower in the list. I mean, the…royalty list or whatever.  She’s like the queen of all my Shinkis if you will. The attention to detailing, the added details, the parts, the box, and how her parts compete with what Benio had truly make her feel like a Busou Shinki figure. Adding to this is her violin inspirations, her elegance as if she was to perform on stage, the make-up on her eyelashes, and the way she was designed to look insanely formal. As expected she is quite fragile, her legs fall off a bit, her special detailing can fade with constant use or photoshoot, her pegs are solid plastic (I think), and the music box adds a nice touch.

If you can still acquire her I 120% recommend, vouche, offer, or highly suggest that adopt/acquire her. But please! Make sure you place her in a glass cabinet, class case, or some other respectful displaying case. She’s quite fragile and you need to respect her as much as her designers put their respect into her!

And on a lovely side note – I showed her off to my parents and they commented about her not playing any violin tracks for the price I got her at. I’ll have to agree with them. On the flip-side I think what I got is quite nice for what Choco and Konami have done. It’s more than what I could ask for in a figure.

Pros:

The detailing! I got overwhelmed by such attention to detail! “Pluck thou my feather, my dear” was a nice touch with a mini-poem. “Sharatang” is written quite a lot on her gear/armor and “Avanti Physique – since 2036” on Sharatang’s casual chest vest/piece helps keep a nice touch when not wearing the massive amounts of gear.
The light and key bit is a nice feature to Sharatang. You use the musical key she comes with to plug into Sharatang’s box to allow her to light up a solid red light or to turn and flicker the lights in random patterns. Quite nice for nightly light performances. She could be your musical partner if you are a music composer, or someone to flash with the music on every full moon.
Articulation is actually very great with and without her armor bits. Her violin arm articulates quite a lot, her leg violin doe a bit, and her general articulation is as to be expected. If she couldn’t articulate then she isn’t a Busou Shinki, nor of the Konami line. She might be a knock off if articulation was at fault.
-  Choco/Konami gave you a nice option to display the light bits on a stand by giving you a lovely four-legged base when not set in battle or concert mode. You can also move the lights without any restrictions to where you want them to be. The wire might limit, but they can be placed anywhere you desire kept attached or unattached from wiring.
Her Battle Rondo self is quite nice. She’s quite formal, elegant, and quite polite. She has this rich-musical aura about her personality. She borrows her personality from the rich-anime character arch-type, but twists it into a more polite manner with bows, hair flinging, poses, and etc.
– Sharatang could pass off as some sort of goddess with her gear. If she wasn’t holding her violins she could pass off a Shinki, gold, music, or royalty goddess. What I’m trying to say is that she could easily move into another Shinki Type.

Cons:

Legs fall of a bit. Rarely, but the part attached to the feet do when you wiggle her around putting pieces on.
– She is quite fragile, but that might be in with her musical, formal, and elegant nature? Not fragile, but can get beat up quite easily if you don’t respect her.
– From what my Shinki friend said she doesn’t have her own in-game concert like another Shinki character does. Konami simply pumped the Shinki’s out so they can kill off Battle Rondo. :(.
– I showed this off to my parents and they commented that Sharatang should of played a violin piece for the price I paid for her. I guess I’ll have to agree with them about that since they brought it up in a curious and polite manner haha.
– The parts container needs an upgrade. Luckily I went out and bought a wood-craft box to store all her parts!
– Three LR44 batteries are sold separately!
– Sharatang’s key is quite bland and transparent. Maybe that was Choco’s decision to fit it on to the battery box due to design limitations, but I was a tad bit disappointed. I don’t mind, I can see it being transparent because of designs.
