Figma Saber – Casual

Obtained another Figma and its Saber again. I tried to obtain her before from Play-Asia but they never did send me Saber, nor Shiro. Its probably due to the number of people pre-ordering or similar. This is my 8th Saber in my Fate/Stay night collection that are on two shelves in two glass cabinets; third Figma.

For those still not in the know about who Saber is or what Fate/Stay Night is may want to venture over here:

Saber’s Image song:

I obtained Saber for $44.99 CAD (or around $56-58 CAD with taxes) at the local AnimeStop. If I order online or buy in stores it always ends up being very expensive either way. So why did I obtain this casual Saber? Saber Lily and the original  Saber are always in their combat gear/mode and needed something more…..well…..casual. I was hoping this Saber Figma set would allow me to pose my Figma’s within every day settings without sticking out too much.

Nice casual Saber with a casual box.

And of course the types of poses Saber can do if you so desire to pose her in which they are displayed.

Figma. Has anybody really noticed the “F” and “I” look like an “A”? ‘Agma’ for example. Didn’t really mention it earlier as its something far too trivial.

And the command symbol Emiya Shiro (or Shirou) has on his hand to summon or command Saber 3 times before a “contract” is broken.

As with every box flap you get these instructions on how to remove the face plate.

Good Smile Company. I was hoping the background would of more pleasing to the eye. I’m not saying its bad but I was hoping for a wall of trees or a room background or something. Not that I’m complaining, just stating.

The Figma parts to the left are nicely placed. The face and the two spare hand pieces are nicely covered in another plastic.

Oh? Getting another one of those highly descriptive instructions. Going to word out the instructions and I still don’t know Japanese so don’t quote me. If you want an exact translation then ask someone who actually knows what this says.

1) “Take peg out and place Saber’s upper body into the hole within her lower body portion”.
2) “Carefully place the lower peg into the lower leg portion with the hands pointed outwards as to not cause damage”.
3) “Simply slide in the ‘shinai’ into Saber’s hand. Do not forcefully shove the ‘shinai’ into the hand”.
(Need a translation on this one as I have no clue what its trying to say)

Saber five seconds out of the plastic case. Her leg came off causing her to have that awkwardly slanted right leg (left in the image). Now, what other Figma had that issue? Was it Meiya or Cheerleader Mikuru? I think it was Mikuru when I was trying to pose her on a big rock for the “First Glance Review”. Didn’t have too much trouble with both “problem” being mended, for now.

Oh, and Saber’s skirt is flexible enough to be pulled up. Its made out of some hard flexible plastic (unfamiliar with plastic types) that probably wouldn’t be able to flap within the strongest of gusts. If anything, the figure itself would be blown away first before the skirt would flap within the “breeze”.

And on a similar note, her waist is actually painted for the more ecchi sided Figma collectors. Rather not show that as kids may start getting horny on us Figma & Anime fans. Though, they are already horny and corrupted where I live. Thats beside the point though……..

Her bottom leg portion is also placed within a tiny plastic bag. Not as much plastic wrapping this time around.

Haha, damn. I just though that Saber and the Summer Haruhi version would go well with each other for a nice picnic scene. *reminds self to take some for spring*.

Lovely Saber ^^. For something very casual there a nice few detailed shoe laces on her boots, rear tie on her skirt, tie on her shirt, and the one on hair. The casual feel is noticed. I like the detailing and the range of poses these Figmas are designed for.

Used a Di:stage with a printable paper stage prop that maybe found at the Figma.jp official site.

http://figma.jp/DL/DL.html

Pro’s:
Well detailed figure – faithful to the Visual Novel/Anime design Saber.
– Has a lower body portion to allow the figma to kneel without forcefully bending leg joints.
– Comes with two extra hand pieces containing chopsticks and a bowl of rice.
– Poses well.
– For being a “casual” version she came with two face plates (Meiya came with one other and was more detailed). Lucky?
– Comes with a protective (or universal) joint pin.

Con’s:
– Saber’s right leg fell off twice when taken directly out of protective plastic case; second when posing.
(Edit: Sunday, May 09, 2010 – Saber’s leg continues to fall off whenever figure posing gets too complex. May want to double check with the quality of your Figma ASAP.)
– Box art and background is generic. Its probably to reflect the casual behavior of the figure itself.
– No new figma stand parts (i.e Figma Lily and Di:stage waist clips).
– Not suited for Canadian winter climate in both posing and the type of clothing she wears. Obviously?
-  (Figma brand in general) Burns a big fat hole in the wallet.

Final thoughts:

She would pose well in spring, summer, and fall scenery without any snow or cold weather type scenery. I can imagine her being used in picnic scenes, food reviewing images, snow cottage romantic themes (for the girl audience out there), and any restaurant styled Figma scenes. There are more but this is all I thought of for the moment. Such a nice Figma. Will be taking pictures of Saber in warmer weathers.

This would be a nice addition for Saber:

Hope you know what I mean by a “Big fat hole in the wallet” now :).

Bonus:

I think Lily Saber would make a nice Calpico representative haha.

(Link – MySite)

Calpis (or “Cowpiss” – Dannychoo.com). Basically tastes like milk, hence the name (I think). I’m curious to know if it is actually healthy as the site’s faqs mentions.

And then some more Almond Crush & Fran Pockies.

meijin – Fran Pockies. This one has vanilla milky taste. Fran dwarfs any pocky variant I ate till last night and today.

Both the Calpis and this Fran pocky tasted good. I’d recommended it to other Ottawaians as well, and other lurkers viewing this article.

Thanks for reading the review and hope you found it to your liking.
