Figma Saber Alter review & Kohiru photo-Shoot

Obtained Figma Saber Alter at my local Anime Stop today. Also went to my local Kiko Sushi Bar to eat out as I also planned out a figure photoshoot there in advance. Chopstick Kohiru joined me in some amusing photo-shootings as she attracted lots of attention. I hope you guys/gals don’t mind if I merge the review and Kohiru’s articles into one. Didn’t want to spam my own blog.

Sidenote: I’m not rich; it only appears as if I am. If I was rich I’d be constantly traveling the world :P.

Saber Alter is the darker version of Saber. I don’t know her official history/background, but I do know that she is the corrupted version of her former self. She was apparently corrupted by both Sakura and the Holy Grail. Everything about her is dark and ominous, including her sharp armor.

Not my videos, but here is an embedded video of her arcade route of the said game. In every “normal” mode survival mode (15 rounds) she can be found being the last of every survival stage. I don’t play in a hardcore gaming manner as  I take it very casually.

Fate/Unlimited Codes (PSP)

Fate/Stay Night – Realta Nua OP

Saber Alter appears in the Heaven’s Feel route.

Battle Moon Wars BGM – Dark Calibur:

(I need to dig deeper into what this game is about.)

The first image (above), you can see the display and the illustration for the box on the right.  Below, we have the back where you can see examples of how to pose Saber Alter for your figure shrine or for photo-shoots. And below that we have the top of the box which shows Saber Alter intimidating an opponent with her battle cry.

The front and the back. She comes with a darkened Excalibur, a battle ready expression, a calm hair piece, a parts bag, a figure stand, some hands, and Saber Alter herself. I almost forgot to mention that she also comes with an excessive amount of plastics as other figures do.

And more plastic pieces around her skirt and legging. It was practically everywhere. Her skirt is also made of a very flexible and soft plastic or rubber. It can flex with ease.

Her skirt flips up with ease. The rest of it acts sort of like a “turtle shell” – The front is soft with the rest of it being hardened plastic.

Looking from underneath Saber’s visor you can see Saber’s evil stare. The visor appears to be a bit far from her eyes.

The “metallic” part of her armor is nicely detailed with red lines to show that she has been corrupted by the holy grail. Simple as the lines maybe they do look nice. Her armor is also pretty sharp. A careless move could probably cut your finger up lightly. If you have any kids roaming around your collection then do put her somewhere hard to grasp at. Better to be safe then sorry.

The neat thing about Saber Alter’s shoulder is a cut that allows the plastic to flex closer towards the shoulder. I tried to get Alter to point at it but she had an articulation problem. It’s hard to see but it’s where the shoulder armor curves down and towards Saber’s torso. I hope you see it.

Her arms can’t reach each other that easily causing me to gently force them together in paranoia.

“Team Saber are go!~”

The three articulated Skirted Sabers. Saber Extra’s skirt is one piece so she was left out.

Saber Alter’s trademark character stomp. She loves to do it a lot in “Fate/Unlimited Codes” for PSP just to show that she means business and who’s boss. She’s really not someone you’d want to piss off even for fun.

Guess I’ll be photo-shooting Saber Alter in the fall when all the leaves fall on the ground. She could also have some  combat moments with Blue Saber. She seems like one of those fall – Halloween – type characters.

Pros:

– Fate/Stay Night character with accurate details to it’s character it’s created from. Great detail.
– Armor materials are of great quality. Front skirt is of soft plastic making it easy to pose. Legging and arm armor are sharp and can easily cut your skin if you’re insanely careless. Even though it’s dull it can cut. You just need to be careless to get yourself cut.
– Her shoulder armor contains a cut section to allow the soft plastic to bend into itself with ease.
– Completes the Saber’s line-up of Normal, Dark, Lily, Casual and Extra. Anything else seems unnecessary and an extremely obvious sign to leech from it’s fan-base.
– She can pose pretty well with her armor.

Cons

– Her armor restrains her posing movement. Having her grasp onto the sword’s handle with both hands becomes a bit of a chore.
– Has a slight weight and balancing issue when posing.
– Alter’s hands have a bad habit of falling out of their hand carrier. Any slight vibration or movement sends the hands falling out so do take care when posing your figure in a tricky area. Saw first signs when opening up the box and another when they 3-4 fell onto the table, in the restaurant.

Oh?! Hey! where you going? I’d normally end the article here but I still got part two! I didn’t want to spam articles on my blog as I used to.

So, as you can tell, I went to the Kiko Sushi Bar since I originally wanted to photo-shoot Shinki Kohiru – Chopstick. Not only that, but because I also wanted to eat out there and to review Saber Alter. When I arrived I was surprised as to how much attention both Kohiru and Saber Alter attracted. All positive and about 2 hours worth of conversation.

Enjoy the photo-shoot, heh.

I had Tempura Soba.

Was a nice warm day so I didn’t want to boil with anything too hot.

On a side-note: I once ordered a hot spicy soup in Bratislava – Image – during a warm hot day back in 2008. I ate lots of European foods and had Japanese/Chinese foods at least a few times.

One of the employees of the restaurant was testing out my camera- upped 1 of the few shots she took ^^.

Yes, her chopsticks doubles as swords. They can also be guns as well.

Kohiru playing around with the staff.

Was trying to make her look like she was scared but the image backfired on me. Looks like she’s teasing us instead.

Then another two images taken by the employees of Kiko Sushi Bar. They were trying to get both the Lucky Cat and Kohiru in focus at the same time.

I’m also working on a Youtube video series that shall focus on Anime in Ottawa. Starting off with an intro episode featuring all my photo-shoots and such and shall open up the first real episode to the Canadian Otaku’s within the nation. If you have any Anime figure collections to show off or photo-shoot images then feel free to post them up on my forum and in link form. If you want to take videos of your Anime collection or Anime Stores then feel free to send them via Dropbox in the same sub-forum. Shall try to release the intro early September and Episode 1 by the last week of September. Probably might not get anything but it’s worth a shout out.

And that’s pretty much it. Hope you enjoyed both the review and photo-shoot of Saber and Kohiru. Peace!
