This blogpost covers the day of April 19th, 2023 in Tokyo (Ueno), Yokosuka, and Kamakura.
Woke up at 8 AM (the earliest I could) while aiming straight for Yokosuka’s military boat cruise. My mission was to visit both Yokosuka and Kamakura desiring an early start as possible while also not desiring to be sleep deprived. I still screwed up in the process attempting to get to Yokosuka thanks to how overly efficient Japan’s rail system is confusing the trains at a later stop.
I ate (Conbini food from night prior), I washed up all prior to leaving, it all goes without saying. I was eventually greeted by cats. A few cats, at that. Morning cats! Nyaa!~
I genuinely enjoyed my day today, totaling up to 515 images. If the blog post struggles to load, that’s why. It was a glorious day!
Basically backtracking my way to Ueno Station using Google Maps to guide me back through side streets. Noticed many awesome landmarks and sights, basically scenery the Japanese locals probably take for granted.
I was being stupid when taking trains for Ueno to another station. I had a mix up, even mixing it up further by taking an even slower train. I couldn’t make sense of what train to take, and where.
[Travel log: Train Mixup (JK) to Shinagawa – (KK) Yokohama. Asked for help/Lost/Missed train (Skipped Zuchi).]
[Travel Log: Slow train to Yokosuka Shiori Station.]
I’m here for your military boat cruise! 🙂
Walked my way from Shiori Station to Yokosuka Mall. Even asked for directions to the boat cruise in hopes of not missing it.
I would later tour the shop to buy some quick souvenirs.
Shirase wasn’t here before, now she is. I would get a nice close up look into her.
I desired a better look at USS Ronald Regan, American’s lovely American Aircraft Carrier. I don’t get many chances to see their aircraft carriers, or naval vessels at all. This would be perfect.
That proudly ends the Yokosuka naval tour. Nice! Worth it! 🙂
Now for a food break at Yokosuka mall. I’m hungry.
Buses beeping in reverse while the other guy shouts – “alright, alright, alright” – while waving to reverse.
The way the Japanese say “Alright” has a slight slur to it, almost like ‘Alrite’, or ‘alryt’. Something like that. Japanese folks shall know, they hear it on the daily, or even weekly basis.
Made my way onto the platform (going back and forth a bit), waited, and eventually boarded the train bound for Kamakura. Saw a fair number of tourists on there. Even was caught off guard by the special train cars attached to this train.
The train ended up stopping at a station for a weird reason. Maybe to uncouple some cars, or something other. I waited in the train car, standing. Every seat was taken. I even desired to capture the tram sitting out on display while enroute somewhere. I sadly don’t know where it is, or was. It’s been too long. I missed out on a tram on display between Yokosuka and Kamakura.
Kamakura arrival:
WoOO!~ Back in Kamakura. Had to visit a nearby conbini for cash and food.
Made my way into the conbini, maybe even guided around. Hard to recall. Once I obtained what I needed, I made my way to Kamakura Owl petting area, accidentally making my way into the Kamakura Nameshiba Cafe.
Paid for the owl, had my stuff stored away, and made my way around the owl displays. One of the staff had me even sign a waiver for owl bites, etc. I accepted, even shown how to pet the owls. One owl was also sadly upside down, to which I signaled her to help out the owl. She thanked me for telling her.
She petted another owl to which I tried to say “the owl is having fun”, or “tanoshi”, but then she was weird about how I said it. She seemed sad, or even depressed (weirded out?) at what I was trying to imply. Back to the owls, I guess?
A couple was starting their own round of owl exploration so I had to pick up the pace, if slightly. They may have also been pacing themselves to also allow me to do what I needed to do here of admiring the owls.
Once completed, I checked the gift store, grabbed my stuff, and left. I may have also thanked them for allowing me there. If not, thank you!
I now seen more owls thanks to Japan’s awesomeness. Sure, some of it may have been awkward, I however saw more than I ever could. Nice!
Made my way back to Kamakura’s station for a rest break while snacking on some food and drinking some Demon Slayer drink. I hid near some coin lockers.
I was basically trying to retrace my steps to visit shrines in hopes of obtaining stamps, as I had for Kamakura. It allowed me to see things from a slightly different perspective thanks to my mood of having visited their prior.
Less awkwardness this time around, and more straight-forwardness.
I properly prayed at the shrine this time, after observing a guy. I accidentally followed him, and he even gave me a few cautious looks. Sorry! I’m just passing by, and I was trying to make sure I was respecting your culture by seeing how you prayed.
When in Japan you have to do as the Japanese, so I tried respectfully behaving as one. I gave my coin offerings, as I had done in a prior visit.
Satisfied, I decided it’s time to head to Enoshima Island.
I was making my way to Wadazuka to Koshigoe via Kamakura’s tram network.
Sadly, the tram was packed full. I couldn’t do anything, or much. Too many students, tourists, and other folks. It was difficult.
Barely managed to get out. Had to fight my way out. Once I made it out I was laughing without making a noise. I was laughing at the situation so much a few folks looking back at me had a slow double take. Crazy. The tram situation in Kamakura is crazy.
Decided to cross over to admire Shichirigahama beach because I was given a chance to do so. I saw the crossing, I chose to visit it happily. Might as well. Not every day I’m given this chance, even if I spent a few days here.
Accidentally stepped on some wood assuming it’ll help me up. Nope! I aborted that mistake as quickly as a guy looked at me weirdly. Just a local observing a confused Canadian tourist making his way up the ramp. I was trying to cross the street to make my way to Enoshima Island.
Honestly speaking, if these homes were built in Canada, I’d happily live in one of these funky stone houses. A home is a home, and I’d happily live in one of those homes.
Also, crossing the intersection leading the below image is overly weird. I wish there was a sidewalk leading straight on this side so one didn’t have to constantly zig-zag. Shrines, and other structures are in the way. I guess that’s a part of Kamakura’s charms.https://flic.kr/p/2pjSMD9
Admiring the above garden while out of breath in some fashion. The stairs in Japan always ruins me when they’re steep. Winded.
Ventured further up the steps, even rounding the corner to the left side (not to the garden) just to see alternate areas.
A rowdy school group (or a tourist group) was in the area, even trying to get me in the image at one point. I avoided them while being in my bubble. I was actually annoyed by how loud they were being. Yes, I agree…. Maybe I should have had my image taken with them, as I had in Kure, and other places. I was feeling slightly on the agitated side with the rowdiness.
What’s silly is how the washrooms (above image on the left) is closed after 5 PM, or so. When you have ot go, you have to go. It’s silly washrooms (restrooms) close at a certain hours on Enoshima island. Well, at this area.
Oh! There is a bridge!
Some tourists walked by even confused by what I was observing. I noted ‘Silverfish’. They only understood either “silver” or “fish”, not both. I would later find out this is Japan’s version of a Centipede.
Stopped by at a restroom, if lightly spooked by some guys following me into the restroom. Let me relieve myself in piece. I even had my Lumix GF1 hanging around my neck.
Made my way back into Enoshima Island’s castle. I needed to obtain Enoshima’s stamp, something I purposely went up into the tower for. I would later discover it’s hidden away at the bottom floor at the counter.
I was fine this time around, unlike my previous trip. I wasn’t melting down in depression about not having a girl, though I was still reminded how I’m simply not allowed to have one because of how girls enjoy playing games. That, or they intentionally avoid over weirdness. This time around the displays themselves felt hollow; The VRChat magic was gone from my previous visit. I still enjoyed myself here though.
There is one fact I do note, and expect from people, is how everything is always allegedly my fault with things. Basically for everything in general, and even when it comes to seeking girls. Everything always has to be my fault, and that’s how I expect things from people. I wish to see proper and normal interactions, as I’ve seen in romance Anime, and experienced lightly in schools. Everything has to be so cheap and fake.
I decided to venture down, even asking the staff on the ground floor about the stamp. The guy was confused, eventually realizing what I was seeking. I tried to be kind. An older female staff member came up to me, even asking me if that was what I was looking for. I noted it was indeed, though regret I may have accidentally come off as monotoned and rude. I’m fearing that, but I am genuinely grateful for their assistance. The stamp was indeed what I was looking for. I wish I could have responded in the way they were hoping for.
Stupid me did not realize ‘Lemonade Whisky’ is actually what gives you a buzz. I assumed it was just a drink, not an alcoholic one. They even were confused among themselves, still giving me it in the end. They eventually closed up shop once they gave me my order.
I was even messaging my situation to VRChat’s Midnight Haven Discord group, eventually deciding to stop sending to them after my trip and during it. We weren’t clicking on what I was sending. I was sharing my images and videos to people as well, even noting it on Twitter.
Feeling it was time to leave, I left. Now making my slow way back while still sipping on my Lemonade Whisky drink. It’ll be awhile before I actually finish it, still buzzed from it.
At this point I notice a glowing Chinese-like design assuming it was a fancy restaurant. I failed to go check up on it. Shame. Either way, this area is awesome.
Finally finished my Lemonade Whisky, throwing it out at Enoshima Station. Made my way from Enoshima Station to Fujisawa Station all buzzed. Not drunk, just buzzed. It took one hour to get from Fujisawa Station to Ueno.
Making my way through Ueno Station becoming slightly lost. I simply desired to exit in a certain direction finding myself in stupid locations. Nearly ended up in a Shinkansen Area, or something close to it.
I even considered eating food here, something I should have done. I wouldn’t be able to eat anywhere else, they ended up closing by the time I got there. One place even kicked me out after having initially allowed me in. Allegedly the kitchen was closed, yet they still allowed me in then kicked me in, very sorry about the situation.
I dropped by the local 7/11 for some snacks, such as some Tonkatsu and some meals for the next day.
I’m happy I managed to achieve what I came out to achieve! WOOO! Yokosuka is now crossed off the list with the military cruise. Then I also admired Kamakura, Enoshima Island, and even evreything before, during, and after. I eventually sobered up, yet became lightly drunk from my Sapporo drinks bought for the night.
Now to prep for the next Yokosuka-Kamakura journey, Part 2! KanColle related! And some Azur Lane, of course! 🙂
Thanks for viewing! Hope to see you in the next blog post.
