This blogpost covers the day of April 20th, 2023 in Tokyo (Ueno), Yokosuka, and Kamakura.
Today I planned to revisit both Yokosuka and Kamakura for some forgotten plans and situations. I was suggested to visit some areas, something I’ve considered, eventually only picking the easier ones thanks to how much time I had left in my trip.
Woke up at 8 AM, made myself ready, and ventured to Shinagawa Station (9:35 AM). Eventually made it to Yokosuka-Chou at 10:40 AM for stamps. My plan was to visit Yokosuka Curry (as noted the previous day with Yokosuka Duck), and to then capture all the missed landmarks from the prior visits.

I made a stupid mistake of not closing the lid. I’m sorry! I was being hasty going from place to place. I’ll make sure to close the lid next time.
I initially noted how Yokosuka looks rough thanks to the American presence. Maybe that’s true, maybe it isn’t. I still admire Yokosuka regardless. Yokosuka is Yokosuka, and it’s neat.
Basically put, Yokosuka simply has a military vibe to it for obvious reasons.
Yokosuka Navy Curry Hanpo Restaurant:
I was here from between 11 AM to 12 PM, all because of KanColle.
Burning Love!
Kongo is one of my KanColle Waifus. It’s however a shame KanColle web suffers heavily to tend to her properly in that game. She is a gorgeous, beautiful battleship Waifu though.
We talked briefly while showing them how I was shown this restaurant. There was some slight curiousity, though everything was kept professional, or even “disconnected”. They now knew other Japanese friendly folks guided me around Japan with KanColle stuff. 🙂
Similar to Enoshima Island, the stairs here nearly murdered me. I was decently winded, yet kept pushing forward. I kept going up the stairs, up and around, and to where I needed to go on an decently hot day.
After doing a funky U turn (Up and around) I finally arrived at my next destination.
Heiwa Central Park – Observatory Park:
A two-for-one park visiting it for its views of the town, and even to see its historical significance. The place even doubles as a neat park. I mean, that’s in the name.
I wanted to finally use my 360 camera again realizing I hadn’t charged it since I last used it. Battery was dead. I had to use my phone’s panorama mode to capture a 360 view of the area. A guy was also sleeping in the corner forcing me to avoid him. I was disappointed about my 360 camera being low on battery. I tried charging via power bank, that never worked out.
Making my way back to where this alleged canon is supposed to be.
At this point I was unknowingly racing another foreigner going the other way. I would find out both ways were equally as fast, though I had a more fun route. I took the better route. 😉
The other foreigner I was indirectly racing with made it to where I was heading, even loosely heading to where I was going. We eventually split ways, with me heading down another “slope”. A road going downhill passing by a McDonalds.
Mikasa Shopping Plaza:
It would take me a long while before I realized why Mikasa is special here. I was venturing around, and eventually through a mall dedicated specifically to Mikasa (the museum ship). Azur Lane managed to take advantage of this situation sooner than the more “slothful” KanColle developers.
To be fully clear, I’m not badmouthing, just saying it as how I’m seeing it. I respect KanColle, hence why I visited numerous KanColle locations.
Look at all the Azur Lane stuff! Japanese folks are more into KanColle because it’s of Japanese origin while Azur Lane is Chinese. Azur Lane is taking over KanColle’s territorial turf thanks to the KanColle developers becoming “lazy”, and “prideful”. According to the ‘7 deadly sins’ the KanColle developers suffer from ‘Greed’, ‘pride’, and ‘sloth’ allowing Azur Lane to fill in the voids KanColle themselves refuse to tend to. The Japanese prefer to support their home team, and I don’t blame them.
As a Canadian I would desire to support anything Canadian, that goes 100% for the Japanese. They’re more nationally proud then we stupid Canadians are of our own nationality. We’re constantly instructed to hate ourselves, even to the point of homelessness, suicide, and fake political nonsense. Even failing to understand our main gender.
I admire both Azur Lane and KanColle equally, it’s sadly however a case of KanColle becoming painfully prideful preventing me from playing their game without third-party tools and VPNS while Azur Lane is an pick-up & play game.
#MakeKanColleFunAgain
Spotting another naval cafe/shop in the area I decided to visit, even laughing how it’s Azur Lane themed.
Having been rejected I slowly, yet quietly made my way back to the Mikasa Plaza to see what else I had missed in the area. Myself and the poor lady who had to deal with me were both confused and lost. Or maybe just me. I simply felt slightly defeated, yet mostly confused.
Back to Mikasa Plaza I go!
Made my way to the end, into an Anime store, and then heading back the way I came. I love these decorations.
No Amagi headset for me, even though I was curious for it.
Amusingly entered the platform through the gateway, even seeing other fellow foreigners. We looked at one another in weird amusement while I quietly chuckled to myself at how I had overly memorial moments in Japan.
Saw my train pull up, even having to walk a bit to where I needed to go. I had to avoid the ‘Green Cars’, or those double-decker type cars. I simply followed people, maybe even walking back a few cars. Found a quiet corner, leaned back, and saw the view as it passed by. No seat was available, to which I had to stand.
I also noticed a tram display enroute, even having to wait at an area prior to my arrival at Kamakura. I was disappointed when I missed out on another tram display. I don’t even know where it was even located. Simply between Yokosuka and Kamakura.
(If I noted this same situation in a prior blog post it’s relevant to this blog post, not any other day. A mix-up was had.)
Kencho-Ji:
An Anime friend I had befriended via Danny Choo’s community site (prior to its internal destruction) showed me where his name came from. Ken_Works on Twitter/X with his name having come from this temple in Kamakura. I walked up to there while on a hasty time-frame to make it back in Enoshima before the cut-off time. https://flic.kr/p/2pmhjAW
As requested, we took off our shoes to make our way around the area. Near the end of it I became agitated with other people taking images of everything after seeing a “no picture” sign, though I shouldn’t be a Karen in Japan. One person (probably a Korean; In the above image) noted my annoyance. He became hesitant.
Let’s just say I suffer from the same symptoms as the Japanese now of “overtourism” where I simply desire to enjoy what is around me, not other foreigners. I was becoming highly cranky of seeing other foreigners, even of the Asian kind taking pictures of absolutely everything. In hindsight even I feel I took half the amount I would have normally taken.
I needed to distance myself from other “over-tourism” foreigners. Back to Japan itself.
When it comes to the Japanese itself I love it how formally polite they are. Foreigners are different, and I hate them for their crudeness. I admire the way Japanese apologize, even allowing you to take pictures of everything.
Japanese locals all the way. WOOOO!~
Sorry for the intrusion, but thanks for your kindness.
As someone who has retail experience stupid people (of the brazen kind) intentionally do not read signs. They even brazenly (rudely) throw signs to the side, and act as if they own everything. Those people need to be shot. Thankfully people in Japan have been “mostly” respectful. This sign simply made me more curious as to what was hiding in this area.
Satsified, I decided it was time to double back and leave to Enoshima Island. Sadly, I would miss out on some more gems in this temple, such as ‘Unryuu’ design on the ceiling of one of the temples.
Basically retracing my steps I had taken in previous adventures heading back to Kamakura Station.
The tram was insanely crowded, becoming more crowded as time went on.
To get off I tried to make it overly obvious (body language) I desired to get off. I basically also followed other people off the tram at Enoshima Station trying to hasten my pace there. I also had some overly awkward stares and glances to and from other locals (school kids) in an overly packed tram. Half of the tram was packed by locals and school kids, and assumingly with the other half being tourists.
Was a struggle getting off the tram at Enoshima Station. I had to then speed walk my way TO Enoshima Island while looking like a moron doing so. Why? I was at 4:10-4:20 PM while the cave closes at 4:30, or even 5 PM. I needed to get there ASAP prior to the closing of the cave.
Annoyingly, a couple were taking pictures on the bridges making me have to take pictures around them.
Enoshima Iwaya Cave:
Having missed out on this on my previous visit (attractions close painfully early) I had to do this the next day, being today, just to visit this cave on a tight schedule. I finally made it, even having paid for my ticket and having a calmer experience in the cave. I could finally take my time exploring. A lovely breather.
I’m hoping those who witnessed me bang my head had a genuine innocent chuckle.
In hindsight everything makes sense about the lore and folklore of Kamakura, Enoshima, etc.
Another stamp get in this location! WOOOO!
A lovely couple (an overly helpful Japanese lady) offered to help, and I thank them for that. I especially thank “her” for being overly helpful on my final days in Japan. Thank you for helping me take pictures of this area, and the areas further ahead.
Once again, thanks for your kindness! 🙂
Wish I took a selfie here. Shame.
Respect to the folks for waiting for one another to take pictures. 🙂
I passed by those who had helped me, even hopefully giving them a smile on my way back.
I sadly disturbed a women trying to be a cat-whisperer. She was overly disturbed I distracted the cat away from her, startling the cat. I’m sorry, but I have to pass through. I mean no ill-will, but you were also being highly strange and weird. This Japanese girl/women didn’t seem normal to me.
Maybe she was mentally disturbed, or had a tragic event effect her, or something. Even so, I meant no ill-will. I’m sorry, but I also had to pass through. I even looked back a few feet further to see if everything was fine.
Semi-scary. Kowaii?
One of the Bunny Girl Senpai scene occured on this bridge, at the end of the bridge and to the left, and on the furthest side of the beach on the right side of Schichirigaham Beach.
Trying to beat the sunset while speed-walking my way the other direction. Yes, I’m a major idiot.
Made my way up to the top to the parking lot to take out my Lumix GF-1 camera for more quality-related images of the area. I stayed there for about 5-10 minutes before coming back down a gain to examine the area further.
The guy eventually left, either of his own accord or from my buzzing about, he however left allowing me to take other angles of the area. This was my final day, I needed to get obtain all the point of views as a foreigner in Japan (a Canadian in Japan).
Other people have other mainstream Anime interests, I have Bunny Girl Senpai interests. 😉
It’s also my final day in Kamakura.
It’s sadly time to go. I stayed long enough, and it’s becoming overly late. I have one last final day left in Japan, and I’m becoming more sad by the moment.
Went in, bought some food, at one, and then left for Shichirigahama Station. I accidentally crossed into a car’s way hesitently making my way to the other side to allow me to capture another scene in the Bunny Girl Senpai Anime.
Made my way from Shichirigahama Station to Fujisawa Station having the dreaded – “This is my final day in this location” thoughts. I won’t be able to enjoy traveling between JR Stations anymore, let alone at Kamakura either. I won’t get to enjoy Fujisawa Station either, or anything that’s awesome in Japan.
What’s the word I’m looking for? Lamenting? Lamenting the loss of being unable to enjoy the mundane travels of Japan because Canadian transit horribly sucks, especially compared to Japanese trains in general. I absolutely love the efficiency of Japanese trains, and traveling into and out of Japanese train stations.
I had a stupid moment here making me panic I was taking the wrong train. An older Japanese (or maybe Philipine) lady spoke English to me asking me where I was heading (Ueno), even telling me the train I was boarding is the correct train. The sign was different, yet was the correct train. The sign itself (on the carriage) was correct. I forgot to thank her, I however was “lamenting” the loss of not being able to enjoy Kamakura anymore.
I was sad it was my final day (or two) in Japan, and I would have to return to the Canadian shithole of Ottawa. I was becoming visibly distressed, to the dismay of the Japanese locals (or at least that older lady dragging a upright wagon).
I made my way into the train, even gesturing her “thank you” with my head. A nod, but I doubt it was registered properly. I then hid in my bubble of Azur Lane and Google Maps. I needed to get back to Ueno.
I ate a meal at the station of Ueno 1 hour later.
I swear if Ottawa had this efficient of a transit system I would be traveling around Ontario without issues. I would travel between Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Hamilton, and Vancouver with absolute ease. Sure, I can fly, and take VIA rail, etc, they’re nothing compared to Japanese transportation.
Had a funnily awkward situation at this FamilyMart learning I could cash in on my coins to place it onto a PASMO. Better late than ever. I could have done this trick at Kyoto instead of here. The cashier noted I was “rich”, even if I was holding out $100 Canadian worth of a bill to put onto my PASMO.
I was talking to an English speaking cashier this time, something which caught me off guard. I feel like I was being spoiled, or cheating somehow.
I retired to my hotel and called it a night while loosely planning for the next day being a “rest” day. The next day being “meet Ken_Works after Tokyo Tower” day. Nice!
It genuinely made me upset and agitated today was my final day in Kamakura, and tomorrow would be my final day in Tokyo. The 22th being the wait till my departure of flight day. It all made me sad, depressed, and very jumpy.
Good night!
Thanks for reading, and hope to see you view the last few days of my time in Japan!
